Hey! I built a small thing called EU Lens. It's a website where you can browse European Parliament votes and see how MEPs actually vote on stuff.

You can look up any MEP, see their voting history, find out which other MEPs they agree with most (even across party lines), and there's a quiz that tells you which politicians match your views. I also added AI summaries so you don't have to read through dense legal text to understand what a bill is about. There's a PCA visualization that maps all MEPs based on their voting patterns, and you can even chat with AI versions of MEPs from each political group.

On the tech side: React frontend, Node/Express backend, PostgreSQL database. Data comes from HowTheyVote.eu. I used Claude to help me code faster, and Gemini handles the AI stuff like generating summaries.

Some things I'd like to add eventually:

  • Historical trends to see how MEPs and parties shift positions over time
  • A prediction model that guesses how MEPs will vote on upcoming bills
  • Shareable cards for social media showing how your MEP voted on specific issues
  • Attendance tracking to see who actually shows up to vote

Anyway, if you're curious about EU politics or just want to see how your country's MEPs vote, give it a try: eulens.eu
